Operating under the Faculty of Veterinary
Medicine's Department of Food Hygiene and Technology, the Department of
Veterinary Public Health is a vital academic field that develops and implements
multidisciplinary approaches to protect public health. Its primary aim is to
conduct education, research, and practical applications focused on the control
and prevention of factors threatening public health—especially those related to
animal-based foods, zoonotic diseases, environmental health, and food safety.
This department emphasizes the critical role of
veterinary medicine in public health and concentrates on current issues such as
zoonoses (diseases transmitted from animals to humans), foodborne infections,
environmental contamination, antibiotic resistance, and biosecurity.
Veterinary Public Health extends beyond animal
health and embraces the “One Health” approach, which integrates human, animal,
and environmental health. With this perspective, the department is committed to
educating responsible veterinarians who aim to become key contributors to
building a healthy society.
